Both project teams and functional teams can benefit from the Stratos Role Clarification Process. The workshop allows participants to codify their own working role with related responsibilities, authorities, and
accountabilities using this process. Participants then complete an interactive process with their team members or working peers that clarifies and then validates each person’s role within the larger group.
The Stratos Roles/Responsibilities Clarification Process is built upon an underlying logic of how jobs are actually executed. That logic is straightforward:
- Each job has certain key roles.
- Each role has one or more accountabilities and responsibilities related to the fulfillment of that role.
- Each accountability has a corresponding level of authority. The authority delegated to that individual will probably have some boundaries, but accountabilities should always have a
corresponding and appropriate level of authority.
- Each responsibility usually involves multiple activities required to satisfy that responsibility.
- Each activity in turn has a specific measure for execution of the activity.
Completion of the process results in a comprehensive guide to an individual’s job, how it is done, and how it is measured. The process also builds a common understanding across a project team or working
group of the roles and responsibilities of other team members and the critical interactions that need to take place among the group.
